Magda Nico is a sociologist with a Ph.D on the Transitions to Adulthood on a Life Course Perspective (University Institute of Lisboan, 2011).

BIO


Magda Nico is a sociologist with a Ph.D on the Transitions to Adulthood on a Life Course Perspective (University Institute of Lisboan, 2011).
She is currently a Pots-Doctoral Researcher at CIES-IUL, where she is developing a research on social mobility processes in the Portuguese families, and a follow up study on young adults during the Portuguese crisis. She is also an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Methods of Social Research of the Lisbon University Institute.
Besides the “Families and Life Course” Network of the Portuguese Sociological Association, she is also part of the RN30 Youth and Generation Research Network of the European Sociological Association, a member of the Pool of European Youth Researchers, and a representative of the Society for Longitudinal and Life Course Studies.
She is interested in the family dynamics of social mobility, in the processes of reproduction of social inequalities within the families, in the life course perspective and research methods, and in the transition to adulthood, among other topics.

She is currently coordinating a project about "Vidas Vinculadas: uma abordagem mista, longitudinal e multinível do curso de vida da família”, and co-coordinates with Ana Caetano a Project about “Ecos Biográficos: Triangulação no estudo dos percursos de vida”, both financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia.

She is the vice-coordInator of RN30 – Youth and Generation of the European Sociological Association (ESA) and “Global Representative” da Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies, and co-organiser of Seminars Cycle “Biografias e Trajectórias: das vidas, aos dados aos resultados” with Ana Caetano.

Coordinates with Cláudia Casemiro (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa) and Vanessa Cunha (ICS-ULisboa), the Secção Temática “Famílias e Curso de Vida” of the Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia (APS).
